title: Our Criteria
We consider quality of visuals, audio, interactivity, educational value and how the children respond to it among other things. We’ll do our best to give you all the information you need to decide whether this app should be a part of your family’s collection.
Compatibility
We will point out whether an app is compatible with iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. If an app is compatible with all 3 devices we will put ‘Universal’. We do not specify which models or OS versions because that changes often.
Tags
We consider the various Muslim family ideals we have come across over the years and tag each app with the following (we often mention why an app does or doesn’t receive a tag if we feel clarification is necessary):

Tag Details
- No Violence. Most families look for apps that do not have violent imagery.
- No Religion. We will tag an app with ‘No Religion’ only if it has no religious imagery or messages in it at all, including Islam.
- No Pigs. Pigs are considered unclean in Islam and Muslims do not eat pork, many families extend this prohibition and prefer their children not to play with Pig toys or read books about pigs.
- No Music. Many Muslims believe Music is forbidden.
- No Romance. Many families prefer their childrens media and literature not to involve romantic storylines.
- No Holidays. Many Muslims do not celebrate traditional or secular Holidays such as Birthdays and Christmas. An app will be tagged with this only if it includes no holidays at all, including Muslim holidays.
- No Faces. Many Muslim families are uncomfortable with images of living things and prefer pictures in childrens books not to have faces.
Rating
According to how much we like the app, we’ll give it a rating. We don’t use a star rating and we’ve tried to design a system that contains no negative or poor rating level.
