iSawab – Islamic Rewards Tracking

iSawab – Islamic Rewards Tracking

Posted in Featured, Islamic on March 10, 2012 by

iSawab is a very comprehensive Islamic Rewards Tracking app, in other words it’s a tool for Muslims to keep track of their daily deeds and to help promote consistency and self betterment in religious practice. To use the app you simply input the deeds you’ve done as you do them, for example, when you pray, tap the Prayer section, then tap the prayer you’ve just completed, it will bring up a box asking if you prayed at home, work or mosque. The app does a very cool thing with this... Keep Reading »

To Catch a Bug

To Catch a Bug

Posted in Featured, Islamic, Stories on November 6, 2011 by

We love almost everything about this book! It’s about a little Muslim girl who loves all things creepy crawly. She takes us around her garden telling us about the bugs she finds and then collects in jars (much to her mothers horror). The story includes Islamic phrases like Alhamdulillah (All praise is for Allah) and for this reason it doesn’t get a ‘No Religion’ tag. With that being said, it includes a glossary (see screen shot below) of the terms used (including audio translation)... Keep Reading »

Allah made the world

Allah made the world

Posted in Featured, Islamic, Stories on November 3, 2011 by

This is the first app from Over The Moon Stories. Allah made the world is a sweet, simple rhyming story by Suzanne Muir. We reviewed their other app Ramadan Mubarak Happy Ramadan last Eid. It’s a short and simple story but very charming, we all enjoy it (and it’s perfect for those nights when bedtime has gotten a little late and story-time can’t go on as long). It has some small animations and sound affects but is minimally interactive (which isn’t a bad thing at all, I like... Keep Reading »

Quran Majeed

Quran Majeed

Posted in Arabic, Education, Featured, Islamic on October 21, 2011 by

Where do I start? Quran Majeed has all the features (I can think of) you could ask for in a Qur’an app. You have the option of 10 reciters in the app including our favorites Abdul-Baasit (our preferred reciter for the kids, he has a nice slow and clear tone that makes pronounceation easy to learn) and Saad Al-Ghamidi (who has a beautiful melodic tone, my favorite when listening for personal reflection. He makes the Tajweed (the special rhythm used to recite the Qur’an) easier to learn).... Keep Reading »

Zain Al-Islam: Learn to Pray

Zain Al-Islam: Learn to Pray

Posted in Arabic, Islamic on October 10, 2011 by

Zain Al-Islam is a simple animated app aimed at teaching salah (Muslim prayer) and wudhu (ritual washing before prayer). It’s designed for iPhone but works well on the iPad as well. The entire app is in Arabic and while I’d like to see the instructions in other languages (not the actual prayer, obviously, although text translation and transliteration would be a great addition) so that non Arabic speakers new to salah and wudhu could benefit further from it, I could understand it easily... Keep Reading »
