The Tale of Peter Rabbit Nov 21, 2011

‘The Tale of Peter Rabbit’ is an old classic that I’m sure many of you reading this review grew up with. I know I did.

When PicPocket books asked me to review some of their library, I chose ‘The Tale of Peter Rabbit’ for the opportunity to introduce a new generation of little Muslim kids (or little any kids at all!) to this charming story.

This app is an adaptation of the original Beatrix Potter tale. It is simple enough for little ones, engaging and full of mischief for the older ones, and familiar and nostalgic for the even older ones (like me). The whole family will enjoy this app. Clear and soft narration makes it a great bedtime story and it is just beautifully illustrated.

This tale, if you aren’t familiar, tells us about sisters Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail and their naughty little brother Peter. Their mother sends them out to play in the fields with the warning not to go down the lane or into Mr McGregor’s garden. Apparently their father (Mr Rabbit) had become rabbit pie on the McGregor’s table. This is only a passing mention though so don’t let it deter you, it didn’t worry my children.

Peter Rabbit, himself apparently undeterred by his fathers fate, goes into the garden anyway and eats his fill of veges. He is discovered and gets the fright of his life when Mr McGregor almost catches him.

We just loves this story, it is exciting and has an excellent lesson hidden in it (Listen to your mother. Who doesn’t want their kids to learn that one?)

In Short

Everyone should have 'The Tale of Peter Rabbit' in their library and PicPocket books offers a beautiful and charming adaptation, perfect for your digital library.
